In popular culture, the term “Shangri-La” is synonymous with immortality.
For most people, the wait for science to find a real answer to aging is going to take a while. For the time being, the closest answer available would be the treatments available in places like medical spas.
First things first. What are these medical spas, anyway? Why do they keep on spreading out like mushrooms all over the country?
A medical spa is a combination of a medical clinic and a day spa. It is operating with a medical license and is supervised and staffed by and with professional and medical doctors. It offers surgeries and procedures likes liposuction, abdominoplasty and botox. At the same time, it offers the usual day spa services like massages and body and facial treatments.
The difference between these spas and medical centers is that the former has a more soothing and relaxing ambience as oppose to the latter, which is like a hospital with clinical hallways and sterile odor. Medical spas provide a wellness menu that include special treatments and therapies like hydration and HGC consultation.
What sets medical spas apart from others is that they are owned and operated by state-licensed doctors. A professional doctor supervises each procedure or treatment; he may be a doctor or a specialized surgeon that is assisted by a staff of medical experts like nurses or nursing practitioners, aestheticians or medical technicians.
At present, there is still no national standard for medical spas, therefore leaving the regulation and decision up to individual states. As a result, many people are confused as to who can perform medical procedures and what are the licenses and permit necessary.
For examples, there are certain states which allows technicians to perform laser and light treatments even if they don’t have medical training. Throughout the country, it is also a common practice for some medical spas to hire non-med technicians for everything from Botox to laser liposuction.
On top of this, the law isn’t clear on which treatments can safely be done by a non-medical technician, and which should only be performed by a licensed doctor. As such, it is highly recommended that consumers first inquire about the training and credentials of the staff who will perform the procedure, before availing of their services.
The uncertainty in the regulations and the lack of oversight make it hard to control unlicensed technicians, particularly when they step into areas that they are not trained for. Many clients are also unclear on which treatments require someone to have a medical license and which ones do not, which can make things even more confusing.
A medical spa can be a great alternative to a medical center or clinic. However, consumers should make sure it is the right spa and staffed by those who are qualified for the job. When the stability and health of the body is at stake, it is better to know what one is signing up for first.
There are many things that a medical spa can offer for keeping the skin young and glowing.
laser therapy
is among them, and it is a fairly popular choice.
