Identifying your goal is the first step in a successful weight loss program. Do you just want to shave off those few extra pounds you gained over the holidays, or do you want to fit into clothing that is a size or two smaller than what you currently wear? Figure out why losing weight is important to you. Is it because you want more energy, or because you have a specific goal in mind, like dropping a few dress sizes?
Make sure you keep track of your progress. Don’t get on the scale more than one time a week. If you do this more than once a week, you will be overly anxious. Also make a diary of all of the foods you eat daily and an estimate of the calories you take in. You should write down every single thing you consume, including snacks and drinks. Recording things will help you be more conscious of your decisions.
If you start to get too hungry, you’re most likely going to make a bad food decision. Make sure you avoid this problem by bringing healthy foods along with you. It’s a lot better to bring your lunch to work or school, than to eat in a restaurant or the cafeteria. Packing your lunch gives you control over portion sizes and calories. When you pack snacks or lunch, you protect both your wallet and your waistline.
A weight loss plan that incorporates both diet and exercise is best. Clear your schedule for a few hours a week to enjoy some fun workouts. If you just can’t seem to find the time to workout, try incorporating exercise into more enjoyable activities. Maybe you like chilling with your friends. Shoot some hoops with them! Are you a wild one? Learn some new moves in a dance class. Do you escape life by going out into nature? Hit those hiking trails!
Most everyone has heard about this method, yet people rarely do it. Make sure to remove all unhealthy foods from your entire kitchen. When the junk food is not available and readily at hand, you will not be able to just grab some when you are tempted. Instead, make sure you have a lot of healthy options in your pantry, such as fruit, vegetables and nuts. Don’t just strive to make it difficult to choose unhealthy alternatives. Strive to make it impossible, at least not without having to make a special trip to the store. Before long, you’ll start to enjoy your new healthy snacks, and won’t even miss the old ones.
Ask your friends to become your support system as you try to lose weight. They might not be able to lose the weight for you, but their unconditional support is the next best thing. Having to answer to someone other than yourself can help keep you from giving up when you are feeling discouraged. Give a friend a call if you need some help and someone to encourage you. Your friends will be there to offer you support when you need it most.
